01 Overview

This simulation placed me in the role of an analyst on Mastercard’s Security Awareness Team. Rather than a theoretical course, the work centred on the practical side of the awareness function — identifying where an organisation is exposed through its people, testing that exposure safely, and responding with targeted training rather than blanket policy.

What made it worthwhile from a blue-team perspective is that it sits on the human side of security. Most technical controls assume the user eventually becomes the last line of defence. This simulation was about measuring how well that line actually holds, and improving it with evidence rather than assumption.

02 Practical Tasks

TASK 01

Design a phishing email simulation

Built a controlled phishing simulation to test employee susceptibility — constructing a realistic lure and defining how the exercise would be run safely across the business.

TASK 02

Interpret phishing simulation results

Analysed the response data to identify which teams and business areas showed the weakest security posture, then translated those findings into prioritised training recommendations.
